Fire I & Hazardous Materials Class Description

Fire I Training Course

Firefighter I Training Course is taught to the NFPA 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications.  In this course the students learn through class lectures and hands on training to operate safety and effectively on a fireground.  Basic skills they are taught are as follows:

  • Put on (DON) and off (DOFF) personal protective equipment (PPE) properly.
  • Understand and quickly apply appropriate communication protocols.
  • Hoist hand tools using appropriate knots.
  • Use Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
  • Respond on apparatus to an emergency scene.
  • Establish and operate safety in emergency work areas.
  • Forceable entry into a structure.
  • Exit a hazardous area safely as a team.
  • Set up and use ground ladders safely.
  • Attack a passenger vehicle fire, an exterior class A fire and an interior structure fire.
  • Conduct search and rescue in a structure.
  • Perform ventilation in an involved structure.
  • Overhaul a fire scene.
  • Conserve property with salvage tools and equipment.
  • Connect a fire engine to a water supply.
  • Extinguish incipient class A, B, and C fires.
  • Illuminate an emergency scene.
  • Turn off utilities.
  • Combat ground cover fires.
  • Perform fire safety surveys.
  • Clean and maintain equipment.
  • Locate information in department documents and standard operating procedures.
  • Operate as part of a team.

Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations Level

First Responders at the Operations Level are individuals who respond to releases or potential releases of hazardous substances as part of the initial response to the site for the purpose of protecting nearby persons, property, or the environment from the effects of the release.


They are trained to respond in a defensive fashion without actually trying to stop the release.  Their function is to contain the release from a safe distance, keep it from spreading, and prevent exposures.

Fire 2 Class Description

Fire II Training Course

Firefighter Level II Training Course is taught to the NFPA 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications.  In this course the students learn through class lectures and hands on training.  Skills they are taught are as follows:

  • Performance criteria in Incident Command Implementation
  • Building Materials and Collapse
  • Vehicle Extrication
  • Technical Rescue
  • Fire Hose Testing
  • Foam Operations
  • Flammable Liquid/Gases
  • Fire Detection and Alarm Systems
  • Fire Cause and Origin
  • Fire Department Communications
  • Fire Reports
  • Pre-Fire Planning
  • Strategy
  • Tactics

Rapid intervention/firefighter safety & survival training Pr

Rapid Intervention/Firefighter Safety & Survival Training Program

Rapid Intervention/Firefighter Safety & Survival Training Program is taught to the NFPA 1407 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications.  In this course the students learn through class lectures and hands on training.


The Rapid Intervention Team portion of this training provides students with the necessary skills to rescue their fellow firefighters during mayday situation.


This includes:

  • Planning for the rescue
  • On-scene considerations and actions
  • RIT activations.


Skills:

  • Firefighter removals utilizing stairs, windows, ladders, rope systems and hose lines.


The Safety & Survival portion will teach students the importance of:

  • Recognizing deteriorating conditions.
  • The importance of air management.
  • procedures for self rescue during mayday activation.
